The person who has fed ten thousand or one thousand Brahmins, it is as if he has made his place in Brahmalok| It is said in the Atharva Veda – ‘Shatahasta Samhar Sahasrahasta San Kir’ i.e. ‘Earn money with hundreds of hands and distribute it with thousands of hands.’
The gods are also subdued by charity. Charity brings happiness to God. Everyone seeks God, but God Himself seeks the donor. Donations made in life give happiness and joy in the next lives. In the Yudhishthira dialogue, Yaksha asked Yudhishthira what goes with him after death. Yudhishthira replied that donations go along after death.
In bhavishyapurana, Lord Krishna says to Yudhishthira– ‘After death, wealth and splendour do not go with the person, the donation given by the person to the supatra goes with him as a patheya (food of the way) in the hereafter. Whatever we give, it is not really destroyed, but we get double or quadrupled. The donation was done, ate and drank the organs, and the rest rusted.
साईं इतना दीजिए, जामें कुटुम्ब समाय।
मैं भी भूखा न रहूं, साधु न भूखा जाय।।
Charity work should be done with a pure and happy mind. By donating with a pure heart, one also gives peace to his heart and the donor also prays with his heart happy, it is not necessary that that dua is expressed through words.
